URLTO GUIDE
Read click activity and choose your next action
Click activity tells you how often a link was requested. To evaluate an outcome, compare consistent periods and conditions and check signups or purchases at the destination separately.

1. Distinguish requests from people
URLTO activity is based on short-URL redirect requests. Repeat visits and requests made by link-preview software can affect counts. These are not unique people, confirmed human QR scans or completed purchases.
2. Compare channels on consistent terms
Use the same landing page but separate UTM tags and short links for a newsletter and a store poster. One shared link across every placement makes attribution difficult. Record the comparison period, publication time and available exposure counts.
| Illustrative data | Exposures | Clicks | Simple click ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newsletter | 1,000 | 50 | 5% |
| Poster placement | 200 | 20 | 10% |
3. A higher ratio and a larger total answer different questions
The poster has the higher example ratio; the newsletter has more total clicks. These are illustrative numbers. Exposure counts measured in different ways may not support a fair ratio comparison. Review measurement methods and sample size before changing a budget or placement.
4. Turn referral and device signals into checks
A missing referrer does not prove someone typed the address. Apps and browsers can omit that header. If mobile activity is prominent, test the landing page's buttons and forms on a phone. Compare activity spikes with your publication and sending records.
- Keep URLTO clicks separate from landing-page sessions and conversions
- Note destination changes and your own test requests
- Define the question you need to measure before choosing UTM values
