URLTO GUIDE
Read a URL before removing parts of it
The end of a long URL is not automatically unnecessary. Understanding each part helps preserve the intended page.

1. Split an example into its parts
This example.com address illustrates structure, not a real product or outcome. Parameter roles depend on the site; a name alone does not establish that it can safely be removed.

https://example.com/products/detail?id=42&lang=ko&utm_source=newsletter#reviews
| Part | Example | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | https:// | Connection scheme |
| Host | example.com | Target site |
| Path | /products/detail | Page path within the site |
| Query | id=42&lang=ko&utm_source=newsletter | Page parameters and labels |
| Fragment | #reviews | A page target or part of app state |
2. Separate functional parameters from tracking labels
Removing id or lang can change the product or language. Decide whether the distribution label in utm_source is still needed. URL Cleaner removes recognized tracking names without inspecting the destination. Open the cleaned result and verify that it supports the same task.
Removing a fragment can lose a reviews jump or change app state. Removing every query and removing a fragment are separate choices. Keep an original for comparison when handling search, downloads and payment URLs with functional parameters.
3. Use a builder rather than editing separators blindly
Question marks and ampersands serve different roles. Adding another question mark to an existing query can produce unintended values. UTM Builder parses the URL and sets its five UTM fields. Encoded characters can look different; inspect the values and final page instead of rewriting the result solely for appearance.
4. Choose the sequence for the sharing task
For ordinary sharing, clean unnecessary tags, test the page, then shorten. For a new campaign, verify the base, add new UTM values, test and then shorten or make a QR. Tracking cleanup after campaign tagging can remove the very labels you need. Keep passwords and personal access information out of published URLs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove everything after the question mark?
Those values can contain product identifiers, searches, languages or signatures needed for behavior. Keep the source, identify required fields and test the result.
Can I drop the fragment if it is the same page?
It can select a page section or app state. Verify whether removing it changes the visitor's intended starting point.
