URLTO GUIDE
Making a short URL is simple: paste, shorten, and verify.
Long URLs can be awkward in social posts, messages, print, and campaign materials. A short URL makes the visible link cleaner while keeping the original destination behind it.
1. Check the destination first
- Use the final landing page you actually want visitors to reach
- Prefer HTTPS
- Remove accidental test parameters or temporary paths
- If the link needs campaign tracking, add UTM parameters before shortening
2. Shorten it with URLTO
Paste the destination into the URLTO home page and shorten it. You can optionally choose a custom alias, and the basic shortener works without forcing account creation.
3. Verify four things before sharing
- Open the short URL and confirm the final destination
- Copy the shareable URL
- Keep analytics and management URLs private
- If using QR, scan it with a real phone camera
Where short URLs are especially useful
- Social profiles, posts, and direct messages
- SMS and other narrow layouts
- QR codes on posters, menus, and business cards
- Long marketing URLs that include multiple UTM parameters
Manage links after publishing
When a campaign ends or a destination changes, management controls can update, disable, expire, or delete the short link. Guest management URLs act like private control links and should not be published.
