URLTO GUIDE
When a website check fails: interpret the error in context
An inspection failure does not automatically mean a site-wide outage. Read the target, inspection method and displayed error together.

1. Verify that the input is a public webpage
Use a normal public HTTP or HTTPS page. URLTO's inspection server does not inherit your browser session or internal-network permissions. Internal or policy-restricted targets are limited. Do not append sign-in keys or expose an internal resource just to make a check succeed.
2. Choose the next step from the error category
| Message category | Things to review | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Input or safety restriction | URL format and public access | Use the intended public URL |
| No HTML webpage found | Document, image or API response | Use an HTML page for page inspection |
| Connection could not complete | Response, time, size and redirects | Review the original and exact error |
| Rate or capacity limit | The retry instruction shown | Wait as instructed before retrying |
3. Review why the browser result can differ
A browser can execute scripts or present account-dependent content, while an HTML inspection analyzes the fetched document. A site may return a different response or limit access from URLTO's server. Compare an unauthenticated visitor flow and the original response before concluding that everyone is affected.
Response speed is a single server fetch, not a rendering score. A link inventory describes fetched HTML and does not check every destination for 404 responses. Do not translate one tool's failure into an unsupported conclusion about a different metric.
4. Record a reproducible case instead of repeatedly submitting
Record the public URL, tool, observation time, error and whether it opens directly in a browser. Identify whether the input is HTML and where it redirects. Redact session values, private control keys and personal data from support material. Once a cause is addressed, recheck the same public URL for comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Does a failed inspection mean the page is absent from search?
A URLTO request does not determine actual indexing or rankings. The site owner should check indexing separately through the search engine's tools.
Can I inspect a local development URL?
This public-URL workflow restricts internal and local targets. Inspect internal services with that environment's development tools rather than bypassing permissions or target restrictions.
