Read a redirect path and verify the final destination

A working link can still pass through unexpected domains or unnecessary steps. Review its path as well as where it ends.

Redirect checks · series01 / 10

1. Separate HTTP redirects from browser-side navigation

Redirect Checker follows HTTP redirects returned by servers. JavaScript navigation and app-specific flows are outside that method. Safety and time limits bound the public targets and redirect steps it can inspect.

2. A sensible path depends on its purpose

Upgrading HTTP to HTTPS or moving to a preferred host can be intentional. Review whether publishing the final public URL can avoid an unnecessary step. Do not remove required authentication or regional routing merely to reduce the count.

3. Four things to verify

  • The final host matches what visitors were told
  • There is no unexpected insecure hop or old destination
  • Required product identifiers and UTM labels survive
  • There is no repeated path or reached inspection limit

4. Interpret an incomplete check carefully

A failed check does not prove the URL fails for every visitor. Access controls, safety policy, a long chain or a timeout can stop inspection. Record the error and observation time, then check in a browser. After changing a short link, also verify its existing posts and QR codes.
